I am loving this new chapter in your life and will be following your journey
through the tournament. Thanks for sharing your gems about competition and
loving the pressure. The joy of teamwork and sharing the joys and sorrows of competition makes life so exhilarating!! Love your pics - you look amazing.
Hi Lin! So nice to hear from you. Yes, you know all about athletic exhilaration! I've got so many good memories of playing basketball with you, mostly in UC Berkeley gyms when we used to play in previously-all-male pickup games. At first we each showed up each alone, then, when we discovered each other, we deliberately showed up together.
We were probably the only two players who wanted either of us to be there. :-) Nevertheless, we persisted!
And just think: Those guys are probably WNBA fans now. We were just introducing them to the concept.
Delighted to have you join me on the cornhole journey, and our long athletic journey over many decades.
Poor Muffin Spencer-Devlin, LPGA pro who graciously put up with me in the days when I was hitting more trees than fairways.
As for the trans issue...good to know, Lin, that you appreciate my work and are sharing it with others. Thank you!
Perhaps you find this too? Many Democrats, especially nonathletes, have not considered that the "trans" athletes in question are male: boys and men. Born that way, always that way, regardless of belief, attire, drugs, etc. That's not hate; it's important information.
Once that sinks in, most people come to this conclusion: Of course males do not belong in sports designed for and reserved for girls and women. Nor do they belong in our locker rooms.
The two of us, as college and pro women, playing hoops with random guys was one thing. (As I recall, they were still bigger, stronger, faster, tho our shooting skills were better.)
Allowing males to deprive any girls women of opportunities is quite another.
Fun to be back in touch. Hope you don't mind the rant. You got me started. :-) Hugs.
Hi Brad, Oh yes, I'll be there at the National Senior Games in August for sure. And yes, I caught that winking ping pong reference: Keep practicing, because you're going to need that training for our upcoming match. :-) So glad you enjoyed the story. Thank you!
So happy to hear mojo up. My big push is to learn MahJong. The game is fun but. The new friends and conversations during the game has really brightened my life.
Hi Debbie, Great! I've heard good things about that and Go, the Chinese board game. New friends + new activities of all sorts = fun. Better for overall health, too.
Loved (!!) the cornhole series, Mariah! Some thoughts:
1. Your writing is so witty and engaging. And the photos are a wonderful addition!
2. Why does NSGA have no kickball category? That was the only sport I was ever any good at.
3. Bob and I are definitely going to El Rey Taqueria. Do you and Katherine want to double date with us one night?
Thanks for a fun read! We need them in times like these!
Hi Stacy,
1. Thank you so much!
2. Kickball champions get no respect! Kudos on your past victories.
3. Heck yes to a double date. Will DM you.
You're very welcome. :-)

Mariah:
How lucky were we to share our mutual love of the game and life in the Bay area!
I have really appreciated your research and advocacy of the trans issue in women's sports and shared your column with others.
What about the time you and I played golf for an article you were going to write and I played with Muffin's clubs and we had some good laughs.....
take good care, lin
Ha, right! Golf too.
