Just saying this to be sure. Ulcers are caused by a bacteria, H. Pylori. We get this bacteria into our bodies as kids and in some of us…it’s just there waiting. Stomach upset and a reliance on meds may be the first signs…however, if they are not working, speak with your provider because there is a simple breath test to check. If it comes back positive you take three meds for two weeks in combination and then repeat the breath test after a month to be sure the infection is gone. Depending on the damage there may be lingering discomfort as your stomach heals.
He other culprit though is gastric reflux. That is an irritation to your lower esophagus from splashes of stomach acid that get up into your esophagus. One common cause is being overweight but wearing tight wasted clothing that squeeze, also eating to close to bedtime and then getting all horizontal while your stomach tries to digest. In fact, if your heartburn is generally worse when you lie down, that a strong indication that this is reflux. Also check with your doctor. A med that lowers the acid production in your stomach can help.
Yup. Getting old, as my about to be 97-year-old Mom says, is not for sissies. Good on you for putting that valid and totally relatable worry to good use👏❤️👏 And may your recovery go well!
Indeed. Fortunately I'm out of those particular woods. And summoning my strength for whatever else aging, and this body, and life, have in store for me. :-)

Thanks, Susan. And yes, everything we learn before we get old can be put to good use for age-related challenges, along with new learnings. Goes for eldercare too. Hope you and your Mom enjoy how special it is to have each other for so long. I do feel lucky my mom lived to be 95. (Rounding up, as she would have wanted. :-))
Oh my, we may have passed each other on the beach! Cape May is my favorite place in the entire country, have been going for over 40 years, in all seasons, and we were just there again a few days ago.
I do hope you're feeling better. There's a reason the toast in virtually every language is "To your health!"
By the way, hope you eat at Louisa's, in my opinion the absolute best restaurant in Cape May!
Omg - Mariah, you could have been writing my story lately with the current health issue I’m dealing with - MCC - my latest philosophy - as long as I can put one foot in front of the other, I’m good to go on our next #YayAdventure! 💜💜💜
Ooh, sorry to hear about the MCC but love your philosophy. Life seems to require a balance between acceptance -- including our own feelings about a challenge, and the best options for how to handle it -- and the resilience to carry on. Sounds like you're in a good place.
I really enjoyed reading this. I'm recovering from some minor surgery at the moment. Thanks for the reminder to create.
Ooh, you're very welcome. Glad it was helpful. Yes, journals, drawings, singing, whatever you have easy access to! Hope your recovery goes well.

As a retired nurse, I can’t help myself.

Interesting! Yes, a cute little town, tho I mostly know its beaches and ocean. :-) And yes, I'm feeling fine now, thankfully!
