The “they” referred to all the decision-makers, from state legislators to county boards to school boards to school officials who pretend that boys can magically become girls if they say they are, and that prioritize boys’ desires over girls rights in law and policy and practice, even when 13 girls show up to beg for help because two boys are watching them change clothes. And yes, those decision-makers include women. One could say the problem is the “overvalued belief,” as @Mia Hughes intriguingly put it this fall at the @Genspect conference, and I agree that’s part of it, but since gender ideology affects men and women very differently, with most of the harms done to women and girls, and almost all the boundary violations perpetrated by men and boys, I think underlying that overvalued belief is a deeper one: Male Entitlement Syndrome, as I put it in the article.

I watched that "wrestling match" with Kallie a few times, and noted how sneaky her biological male adversary (pretending to be a woman) was with his left hand. As you noted, she threw the match because of the assault.
Unlikely, I think, that he will be convicted of rape. I hope that she has someone trustworthy to speak with about what happened to her. There’s punishment for the assailant, which is one thing and IS important, but then there’s the healing for the victimized.
Yes - and I feel victimized too, on behalf of all of us who basically witnessed a public, preventable rape. Girls are hearing that they don't matter. That they have no legit boundaries. Allowing confused boys into girls' sports and locker rooms is a travesty. I feel really enraged by it.
