Thanks for sharing your story about getting your mojo back. I'm looking for mine too after finally getting my back pain to a manageable level. Maybe I left the mojo behind the couch . . . .
"My body can trust me to take good care of it." I love this! I recently came to the revelation that "my body is not a project." Who knew?! Your mantra takes it a step further.
I enjoyed reading how you got your mojo back and I love Mojo.
Hi Courtney! So glad this is meaningful to you too. At first I thought, "my body can trust my brain..." but that implies they're separate. It's all "me" doing that good, compassionate, wise caretaking. And yes, it totally flips the script, adding agency: I (the decision-making part) can and will do this important thing for myself. So the rest of me can relax and trust. Hi back from Mojo. :-)
There is so much to enjoy—and celebrate—about this piece. Brava, Mariah! Along the way, I loved learning this: “I named Alpha Alpha after the two-person sorority my high school friend Charlotte and I created.” ❤️👏❤️👏❤️
Hey Susan, loved your Brava, of course. Thank you! As for Alpha Alpha :-) and my first lesbian crush, I wrote about Charlotte in this story, in case you or others want to read more (and welcome back from your vacay):
Loved that story! I’ve commented on it there. (I am actually still away on vacation, but it’s always a pleasure to read what you write, so entirely compatible!)
Mojo is the perfect name for a car of that color and model "Soul." May I propose "Mojo" for your official nickname because you are always go full throttle at whatever you endeavor and your mojo stays on IMHO.
Dear L.E., You made my day. 1) Yes, the car name really fits, doesn't it? 2) What a gift to let someone know you see the best in them. I think I got my mojo from my dear mom, who was the most exuberant person I've ever met. (I'm much quieter in person, but yes, that feeling is generally "on.") Thank you so much.
A welcome read in these troubled times. Thank you😊
Thank you!

What a fun essay! I love both your original mojo, which you've recently gotten back, and your new Kia Soul mojo, which is a great color, too!
Thanks Eliza! Fun to write & share it too.
I’ve had a front-row seat!! And Mariah - your mojo is the best sort … it’s contagious! See you in person 🔜🥰
😀 Front row indeed. Your words of wisdom are with me all the time. See you at Genspect soon! 🔜 😀🏊
So glad you got your mojo back! Congrats!
Thanks! Me too.
